The film focuses on the lives of the villagers of Barskon, a remote settlement in the west of Kyrgyzstan that, since 1997, has also been home to a controversial gold mine. Some of the IMF improvements included the expansion of SDRs to eastern european countries. This happened in June 2009 under Title 14 of the supplemental defense appropriation for Afghanistan. the IMF will never be the same. Title 14 in effect rewrote parts of Breton Woods.

On the 20th of November 2009 the Dutch NGO Both ENDS organised a Political Cafe in The Hague. In the debate a diverse panel gave their opinion on investments made by the European Investment Bank. This bank invested in a hydro-power dam in Uganda and a paper pulp mill in Brazil. In Both cases the local population and the environment were severely damaged.
